Privacy Policy
PassivePin ("we", "us", "our", "the site") is a curated directory of decentralized physical infrastructure network (DePIN) projects. This page explains what data we collect, what we do with it, and what we deliberately do not collect. We have written this in plain English on purpose; if anything is unclear, contact us using the details at the bottom of this page.
1. Data we collect
PassivePin is a static website. We do not run user accounts, do not require logins, do not store email addresses, and do not ask you to upload documents. The personal data we process is limited to the following:
- Server access logs. When your browser fetches a page, our hosting provider (Vercel) records your IP address, the page requested, the response code, the size of the response, and the user agent string. These logs are retained for up to 30 days and are used solely to investigate abuse, debug errors, and produce aggregate traffic statistics. We do not sell or share access logs with third parties.
- Privacy-friendly analytics. We use Plausible Analytics, a cookieless analytics provider. Plausible records the page path, the referrer, the country (derived from IP, then discarded), and the browser family. No cross-site tracking, no persistent identifiers, no advertising cookies. Plausible does not see your IP address once the geolocation lookup completes. You can read Plausible's own data policy at plausible.io/data-policy.
- Email (only if you contact us). If you email us at the address below, we will receive your email address, the message body, and any attachments. We retain inbound email for as long as needed to resolve your question, after which it is archived for our records and not used for marketing.
2. Cookies and similar technologies
PassivePin does not set first-party cookies and does not use third-party tracking cookies. The site may set the following strictly functional storage items:
- localStorage:
pp-favs. Stores the project IDs you have favorited so the directory remembers your selection between visits. Stays on your device; never sent to a server. - localStorage:
pp-theme. Stores your light/dark theme preference. - AdSense cookies (when applicable). If we display Google AdSense ads, Google may set cookies to deliver and measure advertising. You can opt out of personalized advertising at adssettings.google.com. Non-personalized ads are shown by default where required by law.
3. Referral links and affiliate disclosures
Some links on PassivePin are referral or affiliate links. If you click one and sign up, deposit, or trade, we may receive a commission or points allocation from the project. We disclose this on every project card. The referral relationship does not affect which projects we list or how we rank them; a project that does not pay a referral is not ranked lower, and a project that does pay is not ranked higher. Our ranking is based on the criteria in our methodology page.
4. Embedded content and third-party services
Pages on PassivePin may embed content from third parties, including:
- YouTube videos, on which YouTube's own privacy policy applies.
- CoinGecko price widgets, governed by CoinGecko's terms.
- GitHub project cards, on which GitHub's privacy policy applies.
- Google AdSense, governed by Google's privacy policy.
When you load a page with embedded content, your browser may send a request to the third party. We use Plausible's outbound-link tracking to count clicks on outbound links but no personal data is sent to PassivePin itself.
5. Your rights
Because we do not maintain user accounts, there is no profile to delete and no marketing list to unsubscribe from. If you have contacted us by email and want the thread deleted, reply to any message and ask. Under the GDPR (EU/UK) and the CCPA (California), you have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you; we will respond within 30 days. PassivePin is not a "data controller" in the sense of processing sensitive personal data; we are a low-data-content site.
6. Children's privacy
PassivePin is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has contacted us, email us and we will delete the message.
7. Data security
PassivePin is served over HTTPS. The site is hosted on Vercel's edge network with automatic TLS, DDoS protection, and immutable deploys. We do not store user-submitted data on our own infrastructure, so there is no user database to breach. Server logs are retained for at most 30 days and are not exported anywhere.
8. International transfers
PassivePin is operated from Australia. Vercel serves content from edge nodes worldwide; the server log entries you generate may transit or be stored in the United States or the European Union. Plausible Analytics processes anonymized page-view events in the EU. By using the site you acknowledge that your requests may be processed outside your country of residence.
9. Changes to this policy
We will update this page if our data practices change. The "Last updated" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent change. Material changes (e.g., adding a new analytics provider that does set cookies) will be flagged in our homepage banner for 30 days.
